Why does JustOn Billing & Invoice Management use the UBL syntax (and not CII)?

← E-Invoice FAQ

JustOn Billing & Invoice Management supports the e-invoice formats Peppol BIS Billing and XRechnung, both in UBL syntax.

The UBL syntax is a globally available, free-to-use format that was developed by OASIS and standardized worldwide as ISO/IEC 19845. The syntax is interoperable and can be used with other data formats.

The UBL and CII syntaxes differ (UBL is simpler and more straightforward) and are not directly interchangeable, but can be converted into each other using (third-party) data mappings.

The two syntaxes are older than the EU e-invoicing initiatives, but have both been adopted for use for e-invoices in the EU.

Note

Producers or senders of e-invoices must use one of the two syntaxes, but they can decide which one. E-invoice recipients, however, must accept files in both syntaxes.
