Why are there payment balances with an amount of 0?
When integrating JustOn Billing & Invoice Management with JustOn Cash Management, invoices or accounts may show payment balances (where the field Origin is set to JPAY1) with an amount of 0. This is intended behavior, not an error.
A payment balance records the assignment of a payment at a specific point in time. If this assignment changes later while the payment itself remains unchanged, JustOn Billing & Invoice Management does not delete the existing balance but sets its amount to 0, and creates a new balance for the new assignment. The zero-amount balance is retained because the booking details produced for the payment refer to it.
Typical causes include:
- removing a payment assignment from an entry, or reassigning the payment to another entry
- assigning a free balance on the account to an entry, manually or automatically
- canceling an entry with an assigned payment, for example, as a result of an invoice cancellation
- reducing an entry by the full assigned amount
- refunding an amount that was assigned to an entry
- processes in JustOn Cash Management that update the payment and the related entry items in separate steps, like chargebacks or automatic payment assignments
Zero-amount balances do not change the balance totals of the invoice or the account.
